Helping People by Improving Memory in Their Daily Life

What is Working Memory?

Working memory is a function of the brain that helps us temporarily store and manage the information required to carry out complex cognitive tasks.

Working memory keeps information in the mind for a short time, typically for a few seconds, in order to use that information for thinking.  We use our working memory for learning, reasoning, and comprehension.

Practical examples of using working memory include:

        *Being able to concentrate and stay focused during class;

        *Memorizing information for a test tomorrow;

        *Remembering what you just read (without having to re-read         it);

        *Recalling a series of instructions someone just gave you;

        *Being able to do math calculations in your head without         getting 'lost' mentally.
